Asian Inspired Quilt Blog Post

I absolutely fell in love with this quilt the moment it arrived in my studio. Over the past couple of years or so, gold has made a remarkable comeback in home decor, I would love to see more of those elegant gold metallic accents extending beyond Asian fabrics and into some more mainstream fabrics. I have always had a soft spot for those delightful gold touches.
Drawing inspiration from Asia, I decided to embrace the graceful shape of the lotus flower. I used my quilted pineapple rulers throughout the quilting to achieve these shapes. My thoughts then wandered to gold, and I ultimately landed on the Chinese yen coin. I used some pebbles to represent the coins. Here's a snapshot of my mock-up:

When I'm designing quilts one of my tools is a large plexiglass board and a dry erase marker.

I mostly used curved rulers in the center of the quilt and also to stitch the petals of the lotus. I also incorporated some blunt piano keys, bubble feathers, and a pearl chain of pebbles. I use a ruler to help me with the blunt piano keys but these designs are otherwise free-motion.

Additionally, the quilt maker devoted time to fussy cutting some stunning prints featuring women. For some reason, I find myself averse to stitching through faces, and the effort put into this detail did not go unnoticed.

Thank you Gayle for trusting me with this beauty!  I loved quilting this quilt and really want to go find some gold accent fabrics!
