Ghost Quilting Series Block 1 - BLOG POST
This week, I chose to do a stag's head for the Series. I am not a hunter, I grew up on a cattle ranch, so there was no need for my family to be hunters. But growing up in Northern British Columbia, many of the people I know are hunters and absolutely love the skill, freedom, and connection they build within this hobby/lifestyle.

This could easily be adapted to many wild animals, not just for hunting purposes. I ghost quilt a lot of bears on the quilts that come to my studio. But I can see this being adapted to a lion, wolf, or even a sloth. Quilting animals onto a quilt can really give it a personal touch.
In the mini border, I kept things simple as I progressed through my ideas and did a horizontal matchstick. I have been using matchstick a lot in my borders recently in lieu of a piano key.
I always try and echo around my ghost quilting because the shape can really get lost within a free motion filler. I do this every time I use ghost quilting and also to help separate different filler designs.
And finally, for my background fill, I decided to complement the tines of the stag's antlers with a Swirl Hook design. I just thought this was fitting. Sometimes by adding a little design to my swirls, I hate them a little less hahaha. Most people don't like the look of their own swirls, so don't get too hung up on how they look; it's a little like handwriting, everyone is a bit different.
Thanks so much for watching and reading! If you are finding value in my videos, please feel free to buy me a coffee.
