Grid Quilting Block 12
Aug 19, 2026I personally don't know if I could make a quilting series and not include feathers. This week I'm combining a continuous curve with feathers (and a pebble) to create this sweet design. I LOVE combination quilting, and I think most people agree with me. There is just something about seeing organic quilting next to straight lines or perfect curves (like vines on a brick wall).

I think that I could have enhanced this design by adding matchstick quilting to the continuous curve, but part of my exploration is density, and some of the designs I've quilted in this series could be used on bed quilts, and I think this is one of those. Quilting on such a large grid has really changed my perspective on grid quilting. I've always considered it to be something for super complex, high-density quilts. I don't really feel like that anymore.

I'm thinking I may incorporate more gridwork on my medium custom quilts. Plus, I really love feathers, and I thought this was a fun way to include them in this series.
