Grid Quilting Block 18

I don't have a name for the design this week. I guess the basic name would be Half Double Frame, or maybe Mountain Range is more creative 🤣. I am a lazy namer. My kids' names are super boring with basic spelling. I don't talk about this on the internet much, but Sam isn't even my real name; it's a name that I picked for myself because my real name is kind of weird 🤣🤣🤣. Don't worry, my mom and my husband call me Sam, so it's my real name now. Anyhow, back to quilting, this design is pretty simple, a half frame of the grid square at 1/2" and then a second frame at 1/4", then I filled in the biggest space with a matchstick.

Just because it looks simple doesn't mean it is, though. This design will challenge you to quilt straight along a previously quilted line, and although I am quite casual about it in the video, I realized later that this may not be easy for everyone. But know that it is a skill and you CAN learn to do this, so don't give up.

This design could be modified in a lot of different ways, add more lines or change the spacing, put a little flower in the open part instead of a matchstick, or add a detail like a pearl chain inside one of the frames. Every year, I make a sampler quilt like this with a different sort of theme, and it's nice to look at them to help inspire me. I find this is a great palette cleanser too, I feel recharged and ready for a busy quilting season 😁.
