Grid Quilting Block 4
Jun 24, 2026Alright, confession, I really dislike this design. This is the first real free-motion design of this series, and I kind of messed it up. It looked so much better on my doodle. When I prepare for one of these series, I like to start with something I'm good at (hence the first three videos) and then start experimenting. This makes me care about the quilt, and so then I try harder when I experiment. I do this with real quilts, too. I choose two or three designs I'm really good at, then one that I'm not so great at. This way, I am distracted from the "practice" part of the quilting, and I just quilt.

I think this design went wrong with the scale. Quilting things on a larger scale is harder; it's hard to keep a line smooth over a distance. I think teardrops are just hard to quilt too... I've been practicing them on a couple of quilts this year, and I think I'm going to have to keep practicing 🤣.

If I were to pick that block out again, I would quilt it this way, knowing what I know now. I hope you are learning as much as I am in this series so far. Make sure to comment on the video; it really helps to push it out to other quilters. Thanks.
