Grid Quilting Block 6

2026 continuous curve fail loops Jul 08, 2026
Grid Quilting Block 6

This week I'm going back to some free motion quilting since last week was so geometric and intense. I called this design a continuous curve with a loop. And it is a FAIL! Honestly, when I was doodling, this looked like a really viable design. I was thinking about how we usually have the loop on the inside of the square, and I wanted to try flipping it around. I actually approach a lot of designs this way. I try just modifying a well-known design just a little bit to see if I can get a different look, and sometimes it works and other times it does not... this was a not.

The real issue became apparent once I started actually quilting. Stopping halfway through a curve just doesn't really create the nice, seamless look. I'm not sad I gave this a shot; you never really know until you try. I really don't think this can get much better with practice, but at the end of the video, I do share how I think I could make this design work. Make sure to check it out. Also, if you are reading this blog and watching the videos, could you leave me a comment on the video and let me know? I'm interested to see how many people still read this blog.
