Longarm Quilting Placemats

I was really excited to quilt 12 quiltworx placemats for Monette.  Even though these are still paper pieced and will need some detailed work, quilting placemats is much simpler than a full mandala format quilt!

The only way to mount placemats on a longarm is if you mount them all using one backing (photo further down).  When I was planning my design for these placemats, I knew I had to incorporate feathers somehow because Monette loves them.  But these placemats were a little difficult to work on because they were made with very busy batik fabrics.  Gorgeous but not always quilting friendly 🤣.  

Here is one of my ideas.

But I felt that this feather would be really hard to fit into the area, so I modified to an ungulating feather instead.  I also decided to add in some pearl chains because it helped to slim down the area to be filled with the feather, so I could keep my design more uniformly dense.  Placemats need quite a lot of quilting, so your wine glass doesn't tip over.
