Longarm Quilting Placemats
Dec 03, 2025I was really excited to quilt 12 quiltworx placemats for Monette. Even though these are still paper pieced and will need some detailed work, quilting placemats is much simpler than a full mandala format quilt!
The only way to mount placemats on a longarm is if you mount them all using one backing (photo further down). When I was planning my design for these placemats, I knew I had to incorporate feathers somehow because Monette loves them. But these placemats were a little difficult to work on because they were made with very busy batik fabrics. Gorgeous but not always quilting friendly 🤣.
Here is one of my ideas.
But I felt that this feather would be really hard to fit into the area, so I modified to an ungulating feather instead. I also decided to add in some pearl chains because it helped to slim down the area to be filled with the feather, so I could keep my design more uniformly dense. Placemats need quite a lot of quilting, so your wine glass doesn't tip over.

I think that this idea really worked out well, and I was able to achieve what I set out to do. Make sure to watch the YouTube video for some more info and some common questions I get.
