Mondern Feather Quilting Block 5 Title

This is one of the more difficult blocks to piece, I am not the best piecer but I was pretty proud of how well this whole quilt came out.  I antagonize endlessly when choosing fabrics as well.... hahaha I suppose my skills lie primarily in quilting.  Anyhow being one of the most difficult, to me it is also one of the more interesting ones.

You can find the video on YouTube here.

On a more personal note, I was elected Vice President of my guild yesterday.  I am really excited to have a more prominent role (even if my time is limited).  I live in a pretty small community in British Columbia Canada, but the quilters here are phenomenal I hope I serve them well :)

Back to the quilting, I actually really liked my first go at this block.

But as with the other quilt blocks, it just didn't read "modern" enough to me.  It took me a long time to decide to remake and requilt this quilt for YouTube but I am happy I did because I think that I really was able to focus on that 'modern' feel.

Here is my concept for the second try.

When I was redesigning this block (and all the others) I wasn't sure what I was going to use as a filler.  I also seem to add more dot-to-dot designs as I was standing in front of the quilt.   Here is a finished photo.

Much more modern even with the classic bump back feathers. In the video, you might notice I point out a spot where I kinda misjudged a couple of the blunt piano keys while longarm quilting, can you see them now?  Well, now you might, but they sure do blend in!  If you decide to quilt these blocks, don't go back and make them perfect there is no need, as a whole this block looks great!

The machine is an older Handi Quilter Avante with a stitch regulator.

I am using Glide Thread in the colour white.

The marking pen I use is a Kering blue water-soluble marker (any blue one will do).

I used my Rocket Ruler by Silly Moon Quilt Co. and my BFF by Quilted Pineapple.
