Practice Quilting on a Real Quilt

This is my last video for this part of the year. Next week I will be launching into my Summer Quilting Series, and I'm really excited to share the summer months experimenting and quilting.  I love to challenge myself out of my comfort zone a little bit and explore some new designs mixed with some old favourites to keep sharp.  

Speaking of practice, I honestly believe that the best way to become proficient at anything is to simply do it. So here is my challenge to anyone who has been putting off ruler quilting, who hasn't done it in a while, or maybe someone who needs to get back in the saddle: try a charm square quilt.

The best part of these types of quilts is that all the blocks are the same size, so you have a grid built into the quilt that you can just mount and practice.  I know lots of people prefer to practice on an old sheet or ugly piece of fabric, but in my opinion, you build skills faster if you have a little skin in the game.  You have to WANT it.  Sure you might mess it up, but if you watch enough videos of mine you'll see that we all screw up.  Rant over 😊😉😂

Here are some sketches I came up with for Wendy's grandson's Graduation Quilt. 

I really had a good idea of what I was going to do as Wendy and I have been working together for quite a few years, even after she moved away.  And we have completed quite a few of these photo quilts for her grandchildren. 

I really like the simplicity of the quilting design, it's custom but not overwhelming.  I'm pretty excited for June as well as my youngest daughter will be graduating.

Wendy always includes some fun fabrics that represent her grandkids' interests. This young man liked running and cars.
